Ruth Baum Obituary

Baum, Ruth Ann
TROY - Ruth Ann Baum, 91, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y., under the care of Community Hospice. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of David Bacon and Marie (Boisen) Bacon.
Ruth graduated from Lansingburgh Public Schools. She was a homemaker for many years and later operated a beauty shop from her home. She was also employed by Mooradians furniture as a decorating consultant.
Ruth was a resident of the Terrace at Eddy Memorial Assisted Living Facility, in Troy, for the past 15 years. She made many friends and enjoyed playing cards and BINGO.
In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed travelling with the love of her life, her husband Harold. They visited Israel, England, France, Italy, Alaska, Canada, California, Hawaii, Washington, and the Caribbean during their long marriage. Childhood sweethearts since seventh grade, Harold affectionately referred to her as "Dobee".
Born in Michigan, Ruth's family relocated to New York when she was 11. She was the second youngest child of ten children. She met her husband in middle school and after graduation from high school, her husband was assigned to Bakersfield California through the US Army. They married and then settled in California. Their marriage produced four children and five grandchildren. After discharge from the military, they returned to Troy. She supported her husband's career as he rose through the ranks at General Electric company.
Ruth was devoted to her activities at Temple Beth El in Troy, where she was a member of the sisterhood. She was involved in fundraising efforts for the temple and participated in catering for special events and ran the gift shop. She was an active member of the PTA in the Troy Public Schools.
Ruth was a gifted artist and enjoyed painting landscapes, portraits, nature scenes and still life.
She always welcomed and hosted family and friends at their summer camp on South Long Pond in Grafton.
Survived by: Ellen (Paul) Kirisitz of Weaverville, North Carolina, Daniel (Kelly) Baum, Jacksonville Florida, and Jay (Maria) Baum of Brunswick, New York and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Harold and son Aaron.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 1, at 10:30 a.m., at Temple Beth El, 411 Hoosick Rd., in Troy. Burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery, in Troy.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Terrace at Eddy Memorial and the staff of the sixth floor at Samaritan Hospital and especially Jeremy RN, for their compassionate care during and at the end of her life.
Those who would like to honor Ruth in a special way may send a donation to the resident activities fund at the Terrace at Eddy Memorial, 2256 Burdett Avenue, Troy, New York 12180.
