CLIFTON PARK - Ruth C. Cerqua, 89, of Acorn Ave., passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Waterford, she was the daughter of the late James and Lillian Kernaghan Breen. She was a 1953 graduate of Waterford High School.
Ruth had been employed for 25 years at Shenendehowa Central School, and retired as a faculty typist. Prior to that she had worked at the New York State Department of Audit and Control. She was a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. She was also a member of Fruitful Vine Church.
Ruth was predeceased by her devoted husband, William P. Cerqua; and is survived by her loving children, Maureen Palma, of Amsterdam, William A. Cerqua, of Schaghticoke, and Nancy Viazzi, of Johnstown. She is the sister of Winifred Tajkowski, of Halfmoon; and the late J. Richard Breen. She is the proud grandmother of Joshua, Jessica Hart, Erica Frank, Michael Cerqua, Brittany Murawinski Casey Stephens and Anthony Viazzi; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
