COLONIE - A devoted mother and wife, and a lover of all things quilting, sewing, knitting and crocheting, Ruth Harding, of Colonie, N.Y., passed away February 27, 2026. Ruthie was born in Albany, N.Y., on January 1, 1943, several weeks late, so her father missed both a tax exemption and a New Year's Eve party. She attended Colonie schools and was in the first class to graduate from the current Colonie High School. After a series of jobs, she got a job at the SUNY Research Foundation, which is where she met her future husband, David Harding. They were married in November of 1977 and were married for almost 49 years. She then worked for Finserv Health Care Systems as a billing manager. She retired from JoAnn Fabrics, a move that she claimed she could not afford because she bought more fabric than her paycheck covered. Her passion was quilting, and she made quilts for her children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all stitched by hand, no sewing machine for her. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden and was a devoted Yankees fan, making many trips to Camden Yards in Baltimore to see the Yankees hopefully beat the Orioles. She also had a passion for jigsaw puzzles, computer games, and most recently paint-by-numbers.
Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, brother, sister, and grandson, Caden Rourke. She is survived by her husband, David Harding; her three children, Carl Burns, Jennifer Casabonne and Jonathan Harding; five grandchildren, Sean Harding, Meaghan Casabonne, Riley Harding, Derrek Casabonne, and Maxwell Burns; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany.
