I am sadden to learn of Sal's passing. When I fist came to NYS back in the early seventies, Sal said come on, hop in the pick up truck for a trip around Nassau to N Chatham, back roads then back to Nassau to show me around. Although I haven't seen Pal in a number of years, I found him to be an unforgettable guy who seemed happy with himself and his surroundings. I'm sure he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Patti

Sorry to hear about your brother. Far too young. I never knew him, but he was your brother and that's all that matters. Hope you are well.

All the best, Jack

I went to school with Sal, did not see much of him after that. I think through the years I was closer to his sister Charleen, so only remember what he wrote in my sr. year book. He said,

My sincere condolences to the family of Sal. I was a classmate and friend of Sal at Columbia High class of '57. We had great times together and appeared in two school plays together under the direction of Miss Jean Tracy. I have great memories of Sal to enjoy. I'm sure he will be very much missed.

Our sincere condolences go out to the family of our dear friend Sal Papa.
My friendship becan on more then one cold run, in the, rain up the elliot road hill around the nimo pole and back, as part of the track team. we talked of our maney hopes and dreams, we often commented how brighte the stars were, we talked when we met over the years of those fond moments. Then I ran into him and he was all wound out about those stars again years later, don't you remmber them he said? sure Sal!!! but what are you saying!!!! that they will soon be gone?? He then detailed the battle he was in to save the view from being blocked out by white light coming from a micky D's parking lot and how we had to stop from being built at that sight.
After that i never looked at the night sky the same way, and with out fond memories of good friendship. The sky even here in Florida, now seems much more beautiful, now with a new star.

I used to practice family law in Albany. When Sal became a grandfather, you would have thought he invented grandparenthood! I loved hearing his stories and seeing how tickled he was by every little thing his grandchild did. He was just an all round great guy, and I am sure so many of you will miss him.

sal certainly was a character…i suppose being uncle charles' son gave him a solid start on being notoriously independent …whenever i sought his advice he would say…"well, you know what your uncle charles would do…" i guess that pretty much sums up us papas in our deference to our fathers…i also share that memory of sal which cousin sammy so eloquently described…that 4th certainly seemed magical when sal returned "home"…but honestly i will remember him best for his second act when he regrouped…became a husband, father, lawyer…god bless each of you at this time. my hearthfelt sympathy, love, chris

Courtney, John,Patty, Cloe and Family,
So sorry to hear of this news. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. He was a really great guy, I loved his dry sense of humor, I will never forget the trip we took to Florida, when I was the "kitchen", I dolled out quite a few pb & J sandwiches and M&Ms out to our Driver Mr Papa. " Ohh kitchen, can I have 3 m&ms please," the whole ride down. - All my love -Julia Provenzano and Family

Pat, Courtney and sisters,

My thoughts are with you and I am so sorry for your loss. I have always been a big fan of my older cousin Sal.
When I was younger (1960 something) I remember a Fourth of July Papa picnic at my Dad's house and that my bigger than life cousin Sal drove in from NYC, where he lived. I remember being so impressed when I heard him tell my Dad about the famous actors he knew. Of course, it was a family event at our house when the movie "Ensign Pulver" was on TV and there was always the... "there's Sal" (Vitalis Man) when the Vitalis Hair Tonic commercial came on.
As an adult, he was there for me if ever I had legal issues to discuss. I always walk away thinking how knowledgeable and thorough he was as a lawyer.

Sal, I will miss you... Sam
