Sandra Liptak Obituary

Liptak, Sandra
RENSSELAER - Sandra J. Liptak, 78, of Rensselaer, N.Y., passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Eddy Heritage House Nursing Home, following a brief illness.
A devoted mother, grandmother and friend, Sandra will be remembered for her warm and generous spirit for those with whom she surrounded herself.
Born in Albany, N.Y., May 29, 1946, the daughter of Ralph Cobb and Esther (Huff) Cobb. She was a special needs teacher's aid at Ichabod Crane School for many years, until retirement.
Sandra, or Sandy to those that knew her, had a deep love for the healing effects of the ocean and the beach, which was her sanctuary. She loved to travel, but always returned to her lifelong home in the Capital District and Columbia County, where she rarely missed a band concert, baseball game, track meet or tennis match of her children and extended family.
She is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Liptak, Joseph Liptak and Jonathan Liptak; grandchildren, Adam, Mark and Connor Liptak; and in-laws, Kelley Robinson Liptak, Kathy Liptak and Jennifer Liptak. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her former spouse, Vincent Liptak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., in the Parish of St. John The Evangelist and St, Joseph, 50 Herrick St., Rensselaer, N.Y. 12144. Friends and family are invited to call the night prior, Wednesday, April 2, from 4-7 p.m., in the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, N.Y. 12144.

I met Sandy when I was a substitute teacher for Ichabod Crane. She, and many of the teachers, quickly became my closest friends and we socialized on a weekly basis outside of the classroom. My favorite memory is when we spent a glorious, rainy weekend in Gloucester and Rockport, MA. The weather wasn´t cooperating, but that didn´t matter. We sat on the beach at dusk under a "borrowed" canopy in the rain and laughed so hard, we cried. "A memory is a photograph taken by the heart to make a special moment last forever." Those moments were some of the best of my life and I will forever treasure them all. Spread your wings and soar, my friend.
