Shirley Alvaro Obituary

ALBANY Shirley K. Alvaro, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital after a long illness. Born in Cooperstown, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Delia Bliss Koletnik. She graduated from Cooperstown Central School and Albany Business College. She had lived most of her life in the Albany area and was the wife of the late Michael A. Alvaro, Esq. Mrs. Alvaro retired from the City School District of Albany in 1996. Devoted mother of Joan McMullen and her husband William of Delanson, N.Y., Michael Alvaro of Saratoga Springs, Richard Alvaro of Colonie and Patricia Alvaro of Colonie. She was the loving grandmother of Melissa, William and Sean McMullen of Delanson. She is also survived by her aunts, Doris Bliss of Cooperstown, N.Y., Gertrude Irons of Venice, Fla., Evelyn Koletnik of Ashville, N.C. and by several cousins. The family wishes to thank Dr. Anthony Cagino for all the kindness and care during Shirley's illness. Funeral services Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Tebbutt & Frederick Memorial Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany thence to St. Teresa of Avila Church, Albany at 9:00 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the Mass in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Those wishing to remember Shirley and her family in a special way may send contributions to the American Lung Association, 3 Winners Circle, Suite 300, Albany, NY 12205.
