Stephen Andrukiewicz Obituary

Andrukiewicz, Stephen BALLSTON SPA Dr. Stephen Stanley Ardrukiewicz died on August 15, 2017, at his home with his wife, Mary Ann, and his niece, Shannon, at his side. Stephen was born on April 11, 1944, at Camp Stoneman, Calif., to Mary (Atwater) and Stanley Andrukiewicz. After World War II was over, they returned to Stephentown, where Steve grew up. After high school, he attended the University of Mississippi where he earned his bachelor's, master's, and his Ph.D. He then started teaching at SUNY Adirondack (ACC) in 1968 and retired after 49 years in 2017. Steve loved teaching and was a natural at it. He enjoyed telling stories of his days at Ole Miss and his life experiences which were woven into lessons in his specialties; criminology, juvenile delinquency, sociology and population. He was always excited on the first day of school throughout his entire career. Outside of work, Steve's passion was hunting, especially duck hunting, and he spent many days hunting with his father and brother around Stephentown. He spent each summer getting ready for the Fall hunting season with his buddies Tom, Joe, Randy, Bob, Evan, and his brother, Bill. His favorite place to be was in his blind with his black lab, Rudy, waiting for the first flight of ducks at sunrise. Steve loved nature and enjoyed taking pictures and memorializing each season with an album. Steve loved to cook his famous spaghetti sauce, spare ribs, scallops, Veal Blanquette and Chicken Queen Elizabeth. Steve also loved sports, and he was a die-hard N.Y. Mets and N.Y. Giants fan. He also enjoyed college football and attending Ole Miss games with his wife. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He could captivate an audience with all kinds of stories from his full life. This translated directly to his style of education that his students loved. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann (Rambish); his brother, Bill Andrukiewicz; and his nieces, Shannon Rambish LaBue and Brittany Rambish King. A funeral service will be held Friday, August 18, at 6 p.m. at the Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY-43, Stephentown. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 4 until 6 p.m. Interment will be held privately. Donations in Steve's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517. Condolence book at parkerbrosmemorial.com.

September 11, 2017

I met the love of my life in January 2000 in a classroom at Adirondack Community College. I almost didnt meet him as I was scheduled to take Sociology 101 with another professor. I asked the registrar if I could switch to Dr. Andrukiewiczs class to consolidate my classes. Since his class was approved for an overload, I was in.

I was fascinated with Dr. Andrukiewicz. As an adult student, we were close in age and his quirky, funny methods of teaching just mesmerized me.

That was the start, by the end of the semester, I was head over heels.

We were married up on Red Rock Bay on Lake George, with a judge from Bolton Landing, my best friend Leslie and Steves brother Bill.

Steve gave me my life back. I returned to school with battered self esteem and he gave me my self esteem back. He encouraged, gave me courage, supported my career choices and enjoyed my success. Yes, he gave me my life back, and as his partner and companion, we enjoyed a magical marriage. I was his Bunny and he was my Bear I am so grateful to him.

What more could one ask for. Yes, some more time, but as we said to each other shortly before he died, no regrets, happy life. As the Professor and Mary Ann.
