Theodore Koniowka Obituary
GREEN ISLAND - Theodore "Ted" Koniowka, Sr., 77, passed away peacefully Monday, April 1, 2024, at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Frank and Genevieve Gush Koniowka. Ted graduated from Heatly High School and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He then proudly served 22 years with the US Naval Reserves and the Navy Militia.
In addition to his military service, Ted received his bachelor's degree from Russell Sage College. He then was employed for the next 25 years with the Albany County Sheriff's Department until his retirement in 2001. During this time, Ted owned and operated his tax and finance consulting firm – providing invaluable service to clients, to which many became close friends.
Always very civic-minded and a lifelong Democrat, Ted served his community in many capacities. He was a former Green Island Town Councilman; he sat on the Green Island IDA Board; and he was a member and former finance officer of the Legnard Curtin American Legion Post 927. He also enjoyed watching his N.Y. Yankees and N.Y. Giants, and he was an avid golfer who was rightfully proud of his hole-in-one at Frear Park.
Ted is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Hebert Koniowka; by his beloved children, Lisa Lewza (Dan) of Ballston Spa, Teddy Koniowka Jr. of Green Island, Christine McGuirk (Sean) of Valatie, and Paul Koniowka (Laura) Wynantskill; by his sister, Barbara Slack; and by his brother-in-law, Paul Hebert. Ted is also survived by his 12 cherished grandchildren who he loved to brag about as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Francis "Butch" Koniowka and Joseph Koniowka; and his sister-in-law, Carol Hebert.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 8 at 8 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ballston Spa. Interment will follow with military honors in the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday, April 7 from 3-6 p.m.

RIP Ted, we enjoyed a lot of good times over the years, breakfasts, trips, holiday dinners, cookouts, watching the Giant games and super bowls, and a lot of peace of mind knowing I could rely on you during tax season. To echo the feelings of all your other friends, you are remembered and missed.

Hello Ted, John & Diane here, we'll miss your company & friendship and all your help with our finances but more so all the trips we took with you & Mary and the continued friendship, the dinners at all the different places & the once a week breakfasts you and I had sharing stories about our childhoods & military experiences.
