Thomas Hanson Obituary

Hanson, Thomas F. Sr. SCHODACK Thomas F. Hanson Sr., 84, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015, in Englewood, Fla., surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 7, 1930, at the family homestead in Old Chatham to the late Joseph V. Hanson and Mary Grace (Allinger) Hanson. Tom attended Chatham Central schools. He then worked as a carpenter's assistant and later as a union plumber. Tom loved construction and the building trades and was an outstanding technician and plumber. Thomas served his country proudly in the U.S. Naval Reserve, serving on the USS Allen and other Navy ships. He was a third degree knight with the Chatham Council of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Nassau Sportsman's Club. Tom married the love of his life, Regina (Pratt) Hanson, in 1958. In 1959 together they founded and operated Hanson Heating & Plumbing and completed many projects in the Capital Region. In 1964 they founded Hanson Well Drilling & Pump Co., Inc. and for 50 years they worked together in the family business with their children and grandchildren until the time of his death. They drilled many commercial and residential jobs over the years. Tom enjoyed meeting homeowners and business people over the years of which many developed into lifelong friendships. Thomas was a hard worker and a loving husband, father and grandfather, a wonderful friend and a generous and kind businessman. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Tom especially enjoyed working in his yard and gardening and was particularly proud of his many lily and flower beds. Thomas leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Regina; son Thomas F. Hanson Jr. (Debra); daughter Regina G. Hanson; grandsons, Thomas M. Hanson (Shauntel) and Joseph F. Hanson (Katy-Rose); granddaughter Katelyn A. Hanson and one great-grandson, Joseph Thomas Hanson. He is also survived by a brother, William A. Hanson (Judith) of Canaan, and sisters, Mary A. Tomchik of New Lebanon, Margaret VanDeusen (Dale R. French) of Nassau and Sister Madeline M. Hanson S.S.N.D. of Demarest, N.J. He was predeceased by brothers, Joseph V. Hanson, Jr. and John J. Hanson. Thomas also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins along with his extended family of co-workers from Hanson Well Drilling and Pump Co. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Thomas' life with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church in Nassau on Friday, May 1, 2015, at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at the Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to donate in Thomas' memory may make a contribution to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at AMC Foundation Community Endocrinology, MC-119, 43 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY 12208. Our thoughts and prayers to the entire Hanson family. It is very difficult to put into words our feelings because in such a short time Tom had become a very special person to us. It is very difficult to go to the Hanson home in Englewood,Fl and not stop in the garage and have a lengthy conversation with Tom. We miss you Tom. Many hugs to Mrs. Hanson.....
