Thomas Hirt Obituary

Hirt, Thomas R. CASTLETON Thomas R. Hirt, 84, of Castleton died on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at home. Thomas was born in Albany. Tom worked on his family farm in Schodack until he started his own towing business. As the business grew, he opened his garage doing welding and fabricating along with towing, eventually he added storage trailer rentals to the business. Tom most enjoyed being with friends and family and telling stories of his many adventures he encountered. Predeceased by his brother Albert Hirt; and stepson, James McCaffrey. Thomas is survived by his wife, Marie (McCaffrey) Hirt. Father of Theresa J. Hirt, Thomas R.(Susan) Hirt Jr. and Arthur (Adrienne) Hirt; brother of Marie Phares, Gloria Keyes-Bento and Virginia Rolehl, and Dr. Robert Hirt and stepson Edward McCaffrey; and sister-in-law, Shirley Hirt. He was the beloved grandfather of Thomas, Caroline, Alex and Olivia Hirt, and Joshua, Jared and Zachary McCaffrey. Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Rockefeller Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to his calling hours on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in the East Greenbush Cemetery, East Greenbush.
