Viola R. Hangs

Hangs, Viola SCHENECTADY Viola R. Hangs, 83, passed away Friday, September 2, 2011. Viola was born in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Charles and Susan (Kramp) Hangs. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and the Crane School of Music at Potsdam University, after which, she taught music in various schools in New York, including the Galway School System. She was a long time communicant of St. Luke's Parish and St. Clare's Hospital Chapel, where she often provided the liturgical music, and a devoted member of the St. Bernardine of Siena Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order into which she was professed in 1988. Viola resided at the Heritage Home for Women for more than ten years, where she was truly content and found a second family for which her Franciscan family was eternally greatful. She also composed some liturgical music and had collaberated with another local composer on one occasion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Parish, State St. Schenectady. A calling hour will be held Thursday, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Brandywine Ave., Schenectady.
