Wallace J. Diehl

Diehl, Wallace J. COLONIE Wallace J. Diehl, 75, of Colonie, passed away at home with his loving family by his side on July 17, 2015. Born in Albany, he graduated from Albany High School, and retired in 1994 from Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation as a gas mechanic foreman, and he was a member of their Twenty-Five Year Club. Wally was a kind and compassionate man who loved his family and his home - he especially loved his four-legged Doberman Pincher, rescue friends, and treasured the time he spent at his Naples, Fla. residence. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Catherine Diehl, and is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maria, and their son, Michael of Colonie. He was a brother to William (Rosemary) Diehl of Rensselaer; Kathryn, (William) Lanahan of Selkirk and Susan (Bradford) Peak of Colonie. He is also survived by his brothers and sister-in-laws, William and Patricia Brockley of Colonie; Elizabeth and Lawrence Zimmerman of Watervliet; Margaret and Thomas Dowse of Colonie; Ruth Dixon of Guilderland; and many nieces and nephews. At Wally's request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 20 Sumpter Avenue, Guilderland, on Saturday, August 1 at 10:30 a.m.; relatives and friends are invited to attend. One of Wally's final gifts was to entrust his body to the Albany Medical Center College's Anatomical Gift Program for the purpose of medical education, and research. Wally's family would like to thank all of those who sent well wishes, prayers, and came to visit him during this difficult time. Wally believed every man's life ends the same way. It's only the details of how he lived and how he died, that distinguishes one man from another.
