VanWormer, Walter J. Sr. RAVENA Walter J. VanWormer Sr., age 67, passed away at his home in Benson, Ariz. on Sunday, April 7, 2013, after fighting a tough battle with cancer. Born in Albany on October 18, 1945, he was the son of the late Clarence VanWormer and Reba Loucks VanWormer. Walter attended Ravena, Coeymans, Selkirk School and though he moved away from the area several years ago he always considered Ravena his home. Walter is survived by the love of his life for 38 years, his wife, Lisa Thinesen VanWormer; his five children, Todd VanWormer of Loudenville, Duane VanWormer of New Baltimore, Marcie VanWormer Waltz of Athens, Tara VanWormer of Benson, and Walter VanWormer Jr. of St. David, Ariz.; his nine grandchildren, Joshua VanWormer, Deven VanWormer, Tyler Brockett, Alyssa VanWormer, Levi VanWormer, Savana VanWormer, Chey-Leigh VanWormer, Harley VanWormer and Hayden VanWormer. Also his three sisters, Marion Covey, Edith Eck, Marguerite (Tiny) Eck and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Walter was predeceased by his brothers, Clarence VanWormer Jr., Clifford VanWormer and his sister, Marcella VanWormer Palmer. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. at Freedom Chapel, 143 CR 111, Alcove, NY 12007. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local Hospice organization.
