Goldstein, Zachary Nathan CASTLETON Zachary Nathan Goldstein, 34, of Castleton, died on June 23, 2018, after a sudden illness. His wife, Laurie S. Knaack, and his mother, Roberta (Zimmerman) Goldstein, were by his side. In addition, he leaves his young son, Ari Steven Knaack Goldstein; brothers, Max Goldstein of Redmond, Wash., and Alex Goldstein of Bonney Lake, Wash.; in-laws, Leslie Sharkey and Jeff Knaack of Castleton; grandmother, Barbara Goldstein; great-uncle, Buddy Bert Neufeld; paternal aunts and uncles, Deborah, David, and Leah and families; maternal aunts, Mary, Karla, and Nancy and families. He was predeceased by his father, Steven Ira Goldstein; and brother, Jordan Matthew Goldstein. Born on April 20, 1984, in North Tonawanda, N.Y., Zack lived in Latham, and Baltimore, Md. before moving to Castleton in 2012. After earning his B.S. in Applied Physics and Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he met Laurie and joined Sigma Phi Epsilon NY Delta, he went on to earn his M.S. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. Zack was a dedicated senior associate computer applications programmer for the NYS Unified Court System Office of Court Administration, taking on mentoring of new team members and production system troubleshooting in addition to software development. In his early career, he worked for Northrop Grumman on embedded software and on anti-tamper crypto system design and development. All are welcome at a memorial gathering from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, at the Ray Funeral Home, 59 Seaman Ave., Castleton. In lieu of flowers, consider giving to Boston Children's Hospital. Zack shared many interests with Laurie including computer science and board and video games; enjoyed reading and discovering with Ari; was a giving and patient mentor, partner and friend; straightforward, persistent, and always learning. Bobbi, Max, and Al,

Im so sorry to hear about Zack. I have so many awesome memories of growing up with him. Your house was like a second home to me and I always felt like a part of the family when I came over. So much fun over the years playing with our action figures, magic the gathering, hide and seek and capture the flag. Zack had that unique laugh that was so contagious. This is the first I have heard about Steve's passing as well. Two great men gone far too early. My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

I can't believe Zack is gone so young. I have many fond memories of him and his entire family (Steve's and Jordan's passing was also a shock to me). From Cub Scouts through Boy Scouts, I enjoyed watching Zack grow from a cheerful boy to a confident young man. My sympathies to Roberta, Laurie, Ari, Max, Alex and all the relatives and friends who grieve his loss. I pray that God will be with you all.

I will never forget Zack. He taught this Tech-NO person, and taught her some basic programming. He was feisty-fun, not always patient(but mostly), and ALWAYS kind. He was like family and will be missed terribly.
