Andy,
Although we did not have a life time together, we did share some wonderful times during the five years we were given. I am holding very tightly to the memories that we made together with your Dad, with Brian, Brooke, Sean, Nicholas and Madison. Although people tend to include the word "step" son in front of your name with me, you were never thought of as a "step" to me.
I miss you and will love you always.

Sue~
Though I didn't know Andy well, I always enjoyed chatting with him when he came to visit you at HCE.
I can still remember when he worked at Target- If it was not for his uniform, I would not have known that he was working. He kept a smile on his face and never missed a chance to say, "Hello!"
Andy was incredibly strong throughout this trying time. It is easy to see that his strength came from the love and support that you- and so many others- provided.
May God bless you and keep you in his arms. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love you!

We part...only to meet again..
I love and miss you buddy. All the years past so quickly..we never really get to do and say all the things we want too. You have been a friend, a brother and someone I can always count on to be there and talk too. I remember when you told me about what was going to happen and i started to cry and you told me "don't worry ash, everything will be okay" Your always comforting others instead of yourself.. That's what I'll miss most. I love you bud.

Pete, Liz, Sue and Becki,
As if words will find their way to describe a life; they won’t. But, words are all we have for trying to find some semblance of reason where there is none; some comfort of rationale when nothing makes sense; something on which to hold when everything is slippery.
I didn’t know Andy, although I met him once or twice. Certainly I heard his cheers and groans, mixed in with other Benes’ cheers and groans, and friends’ of Benes cheers and groans whenever an Alabama game was on. (Yes, we could hear you guys all the way across the street!) I always smiled then because I could tell how the game was going without ever turning on my television!
As Pete’s neighbor of the last several years, I knew Andy through him. How Pete’s eyes lit up when he spoke of Andy and Becki. Those were children well-loved by their parents I always thought. Those were children who knew they were well-loved. Those were children who lived life fully and with passion.
In God’s economy, this all makes perfect sense. In ours, it can never. Somehow, God is weaving some sort of Tapestry out of this thing we call life. There have been billions who have lived It and lost others during It. I guess it’s just our turn. That doesn’t make it one iota easier. That doesn't make me or anyone else have even an idea of what you’ve been through, and what you must still face.
None.
But from God’s perspective, this is a beautiful and intricately designed work of art. From our view, and for now, we are only allowed to see the knots on the bottom side. One day we’ll get a full look at what it really looks like from the top.
Until then, I pray that grace will fill the hearts of Pete, Sue and Becki so there’s no room for anything else except love. I pray that comfort unexpected will make its way into your minds when the thoughts are painful enough to cut like glass. I pray that peace, which you will not be able to understand, will envelop you when you feel like exploding inside.
And lastly, I know that you are all grateful for every single millisecond that Andrew Peter Benes was in your lives. Because, if you can stand on tippy toes and get just a small peek at the other side of the Tapestry, you’ll see that he’s still right there where he’s always been. Right where he belongs…
…in your hearts.

Pete and Liz,
My heart is saddened for the pain that your family is now experiencing. The memories, pictures, and stories are now what you have to remember Andy and the love and joy he brought to each one of you. While he is now walking on streets of gold, your hearts are broken like nothing you have ever felt before or even knew you could feel. Talk of him often, share stories you remember to keep his memory alive in your lives until that day that when you will see him once again. I keep you all in my prayers.
