Broward Gable Obituary

GABLE Broward Meredith Gable, 65, passed away January 16, 2007. He was a long time resident of Jacksonville. Mr. Gable retired from Bayer Corp. in Woodbine, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Gable obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Technology from the University of North Florida. On a volunteer basis, he worked for the Department of Labor in Georgia, where he was a former Chairman of the Board. He was preceded in death by his father, Danny Gable, and his brother, Earl Gable. Survivors include his wife, Jennie Gable; mother, Janie McDaniel; daughter, Laura Chambers (Rick); son, David Gable (Vicki); four sisters, Mearle, Pat, Linda, and Barbara Ann; five brothers, Jimmy, Ronnie, Eugene, Wayne, Wesley, and Leslie; three grandchildren, Travis Coverston, Kirstin Gable, and Justin Gable; and many other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 19th, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Poppy was the wisest man I knew. He seemed to know about anything and everything. I remember how he would come and put his arms on my shoulders and give me a hug whenever he came over, and how he would just sit and talk to me. He always wanted to know what was going on. My baseball games were especially fun for him: he came to practically every one of them, and I loved having him there. It will be hard without him this year, but I know he has a skybox seat now to watch all my games. I miss you so much and I love you Poppy.

I too worked with Broward for many years here at Bayer Crop Science. He was well respected by all here at the Woodbine plant. I am very saddened to hear of his home going. He is missed here. My sincerest sympathies to all his family.

It is sad to hear of Broward's sudden passing. It has been 13 years since I worked with Broward, but I remember well his friendship, encouragement, consistent leadership and integrety. My heart and prayers go out to the family as you struggle in this loss.

I was so saddened when I heard of Broward's passing. I worked with him for 18 years and he was not only a very good boss but a dear friend. Your family will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Jennie - I'm sure you remember me. I'm "Doris" who sings at our Bayer Christmas parties....I can't help but remember right now how you and Broward hugged me after I sung this year the song by Yolanda Adams entitled "Still I Rise". I was in the process of sending that song to you and Broward - I'm so sorry I didn't get to send it last week like I had planned ! However, I'm still sending it to you - I'm sure it will help you.
