Carolyn Stair Phillips
Carolyn Stair Phillips, age 83, passed away peacefully April 4, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Clara Stair, and her daughter Lynn Phillips.
Carolyn is the much loved mother of Dave Phillips and wife Michelle, and Cheri Locke and husband Dickie. She was the cherished grandmother of her three grandchildren, Blake and Miles Phillips and Alexandra Locke.
Carolyn grew up in Oak Ridge Tennessee, graduated from UT Memphis and was a practicing pediatric nurse before dedicating her life to teaching and living the Word of God. Carolyn's real gifts were in her ministry to women where she taught thousands and counseled hundreds more. She touched many ministries during her 31 years on staff at Christian Family Chapel, established the women's board that hosted annual Christmas outreaches and retreats, Open Hearts, MEMS, Mending Hearts, bringing in MOPS, and countless more. She was also involved in JIBS and SALTS. Those who have benefited from her service are immeasurable. As we will all deeply miss her, we know that she is rejoicing with her Savior in Heaven while trying to hold up her heavily jeweled crown!

When I first came to Christian Family Chapel back in the early 1990's,I had the privilege of being in a small group ladies Bible study led by Carolyn. Her love for God and other women was so obvious. When struggling with deep heart felt issues I went to her. I knew she would be able to shed truth & light into my struggles. She was a so full of wisdom, a bright beacon of God's love and goodness. I am so thankful that God placed her in my life. She was real blessing to me. I really loved this woman. I look forward to seeing her in heaven.

Heartfelt condolences from first cousin Nancy Hardin Haggard, Morristown TN.
Carolyn's mother Claire Griffin Stair and my mother Betty Griffin Hardin were sisters.
I have very fond memories of visiting them often in Oak Ridge, Tn. I remember all of Carolyn's children when they were small and exactly how that house looked. You children are grown now with children of your own, but you had a special Mother and wonderful grandparents. She had truly loved and shared God's grace. May God Bless and Comfort all of you at this difficult time.

Dear sweet Carolyn, God's Beloved!!
I will forever be thankful to God for the gift of Carolyn I was a young 19 year old engaged girl when I began my friendship with Carolyn. She welcomed me into her home and into her heart. She showered me with love, gifts and most of all Jesus. I married and 1 year later I welcomed a daughter into our family. I began to sit in Carolyn's living room week after week as she and Ann Sherer poured out the gospel to a room full of messy and beloved women. She loved on me in so many ways as I was navigating my way as new wife, new mommy and new daughter of the King. I am still on this journey and until I am face to face with my Savior and hug her neck I will remember what she preached to my heart. Carolyn's dear family we are praying for your hearts as you will miss her and thank you for sharing her with us. David and Cheri you have loved her well.

I remember the day Barry Leventhal announced that Carolyn Phillips would be in charge of Women's ministry to a young small church at Bolles school. Over Carolyn's time in ministry she took a twig and build a beautiful flowering, fragrant, fruit tree with her ministry. I was fortunate in being counseled; in her Bible studies. What a true friend she became. She made such a difference in my life as a young wife and mother. Carolyn was there through the good and bad times. She will be remembered for showing God's love and grace in everything she did with dignity, poise, and humor. How rewarded she will be in Heaven. Much Love! Estelle Gentry Austin

Thank you for sharing your mother with countless women. I had the privilege of being mentored by her for the Mending Hearts ministry. She taught me how to really care for other women right where they are in life. She also had a profound impact on men. To this very day when my husband's softer, more vulnerable side arises he attributes it to having known and been loved by Carolyn. She's such a Lady in every sense of the word, always living out of her God given dignity, modeling to younger women what it is like to live as a daughter of the King. To this very day I am a different woman from having known her. She is dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

So sorry to hear about your Mother's passing. I was privileged to sit under her monthly teaching at MOPS 25 years ago. She was an inspiration to me as a young mother and a godly mentor. I know she will be greatly missed.
