Charles Graver Obituary

GRAVER Charles W. Graver, “Chuck” was born in Summit Hill, Pa. on November 28, 1919. The only child of Dorothy and Maurice Graver, who both have preceded him in death. He graduated from Summit Hill High School in 1937 and Allentown Business College in 1939, and worked for General Electric Supply Company in Allentown, Pa. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1941, where he served as an officer and Bombardier Instructor, and a Bombardier on a B-24. He was discharged in 1945, and was given a basketball scholarship to Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA, where he was a member of the 1947 NCAA Championship Basketball Team. In 1997, he was also an inductee in the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Upon graduation from Holy Cross College, he worked for Sealtest Milk and Ice Cream Company (National Dairy) in Atlantic City, Wilmington, and Philadelphia where he served as Director of Ice Cream Sales. He moved to Ponte Vedra in 1965, and worked for Foremost Dairies which later became Farmbest Dairies as Director of Sales. Chuck went with Sysco Corp. in 1976, and retired from Sysco in 1988 as Director of Institutional Sales for the Southeast. He was a faithful and active member of Christ Episcopal Church, having served twice on the Vestry and many other ministries of the church, and was a member of the Cursillo Community. He was a member of the Ponte Vedra Club since 1965, and a charter member of the Sawgrass Golf and Country Club. He also served as President of the Ponte Vedra Community Association in 1970. Also a life time member of the Beaches Historical Society He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Minnie Mae Graver. Other survivors include his daughter Jeanne McMillen and her husband Richard, Daughter, Lynn Kite and her husband Robert. Grandsons, Bryan Dahlstrom and his wife Elaine, of Greensboro, NC, William Dahlstrom and his wife Tiffany of Jacksonville, Fl, and William Tarver of Jacksonville, Florida. Great-Granddaughters, Desiree and Monique Dahlstrom, Greensboro, NC and Emma Dahlstrom, Jacksonville, FL. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, Ponte Vedra Beach on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at 3:00 PM. The family wishes to express their thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at Mayo Clinic, especially Dr. Lawrence Solberg and Dr. Daniel Hartigan. Special thanks go to all the health care providers.
