Chris Collins
COLLINS Chris Collins passed peacefully on January 7, 2010 after a long struggle with cancer. He was born to the late Ralph and Candis Collins in Jacksonville on October 15, 1950. He had lived on the Westside most of his life, and grew up working with horses. He was proud of his service in the US Air Force, and spent time in Alaska, Vietnam, Thailand and Montana. He was a valued member of the supply team at NAS JAX where he worked for nearly 25 years. He was a dedicated motorcycle enthusiast, and will surely enjoy riding his Harley in heaven. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his loving wife and pool-shooting partner of 18 years, Laura Sutton Collins; 6 sons - James and Kenny Collins of Charlotte, NC, Jon and Thomas (TJ) Sutton of Jacksonville, Chris Mancini of Wisconsin and Shawn Beaver of Oregon; brothers Marnie, Rick and Michael, sister Gail (Oberlander); and was blessed with 2 grandchildren, Caleb and Harleigh Christina. His many friends and "Biker Brothers" were very important to him, and he will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 13, 2009 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com

Dear Laurie and Sons,
We grieve along with you over Chris' passing. You fought with him as he lost his battle with cancer. He is now at peace, in the arms of the Lord. We have fond memories of him from the family gatherings of years gone by. He always had a wry wit and was a kind man to us, easygoing and fun loving.

All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Laura,
My sincere condolences go to you and your family at this time. I'll always remember the time you and Chris took me and Kelley on at the Wildwood Air Force base Alaska Reunion pool table in Colorado. I've enjoyed reading the other guest book comments about Chris which verify that he was loved by many. Hope to see you again at one of our upcoming reunions. You are and always will be family to our Air Force group.

Dear Laura and Family,

Tony and I want to express our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Chris, or should I say 8-Ball as Tony named him the first time they met, will be missed greatly. It has been both a blessing and a great pleasure spending time with the two of you. As sad as our hearts are during this time, it is a great comfort to know Chris is now in heaven drinking in all the promises of God, with no more pain, saddness or tears, only great joy. We love you and you remain in our thoughts and prayers! Love, Tony and Nancy

Dearest Laura & the Collins Family, I am very sorry to hear that Chris recently passed. I was praying for him to get well, but I guess The Lord needed him in heaven with Bob. I am thankful, that we both had loving, caring husbands for as long as we did and I am also very glad that you both became part of my life. Bob said in the beginning how special you both are and he was right. Thank you for all you have done and please know that I am here for you. You are in my prayers for peace, strength and courage until we see our knights once again. Much Love, Amy

Aunt Laurie, I will never forget the day you two were married, it was a simple but beautiful ceremony because I just knew you two were made for each other. Being your flower girl I remember how happy and sweet it was.I am so glad he loved you like he did and that you loved him too. I am thankful to have known him in the time he had because he was truly a good man. I will miss him greatly. I want you to know that Bill and I have been praying for you that you will have comfort and peace during this time of great sorrow and grief. I love you both.

Laura and family. Our heart goes out to you as we know too well the anguish you are feeling. Chris was an inspiration as he bravely battled his fate, with an unchanging attitude. He was even loved by the horses, they too sensed his sincerity and kindness.

Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
