DONALD MAPLE

MAPLE Donald Lee Maple, a World War II veteran, father of five, and grandfather and great-grandfather of 15, passed away in Worcester, Massachusetts on Friday after a struggle with leukemia and a heart condition. He was 86. Donald was born in Rushville, Indiana on Oct 22, 1925 to Rex and Mayme Maple. After growing up on a farm with his brothers - Robert and Lowell - and only sister Gwyneth, Donald joined the Navy in 1942. Maple served his country during a time of war. While stationed in Florida he met his future wife Francis Pruitt. Francis and Donald were married in 1946. After spending 6 years in the Navy, Maple was honorably discharged and settled with his wife and children in Jacksonville, Florida. Maple started working at Stockton, Whatley and Davin, and would work there for the next 20 years in the insurance underwriting. In 1974 Maple relocated to Atlanta, Georgia to be closer to family. Francis passed away in 1990. In 1987 Maple started work for AAA Parking finally becoming the city manager-before retiring in 2006. Maple suffered some health problems in 2009, but fought and recovered, and was able to settle in comfortably until he was diagnosed with leukemia in late 2012. Maple is survived by his five children Teala Johnson (Ted), Roger Maple (Paula), Michael Maple (Lin), Barbara Maple, Kathy Rezac (Mark), 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held at graveside at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida, on Oct 16, at 11:30 AM.
