Doris Manukian Obituary
Doris Manukian was born June 22, 1936, in Breslau, Germany, to Erik and Charlotte Weise. Doris passed away peacefully on April 14, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Nurhan Manukian, who was at her side; her two sons and their wives; three grandchildren; her brother; along with a wonderful extended family. At age 18, Doris immigrated alone from post-WWII Germany to New York City to start her new life in America, where she eventually met and married her "Prince" Nurhan in 1959. Along with their children, they traveled the world together living in various countries from Southeast Asia to North Africa. At the age of 38, she was in the first graduating class of the University of North Florida, earning her B.A. in Education in 1975, later obtaining her Masters in ESL and Special Education in New Jersey. She was selected to the "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges" while at UNF. Doris ended her 25 yr. teaching career as chairperson of the ESL department at FCCJ. Doris also loved cruising (going on over 50 cruises) and writing about her life experiences and world travels. She was a member of a local writer's group and a frequent guest columnist in various Jacksonville area newspapers and magazines.
