Gail Lilly Obituary

Lilly
Ms. Gail Catherine Lilly departed this world on September 3, 2020 to take her place in Heaven. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clark James Lilly and three children, Joni (Imes), Timothy Lilly, and Amelia (Isaacs), who blessed her with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Gail is also survived by her brother Owen (Bill) Ferguson and two sisters, Drema (Callison) and Karen (Lilly). Born the daughter of Oren and Dorothy Ferguson in Elton, West Virginia, Gail served the Lord and her community everywhere she lived, including as a teacher's aide, Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, lifetime Beta Sigma Phi Sorority member, and active church volunteer. A member of Jacksonville's Parkwood Baptist church, she found joy in her true calling leading the church's Samaritan's Purse ministry for many years. Her tireless and enthusiastic service directly touched the lives of thousands of children across the globe in a positive and loving way, and in her honor, her children humbly request that in lieu of flowers, an Operation Christmas Child donation be made in her name to Parkwood Baptist Church, 7900 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211. Funeral Services will be held 6:00 p.m. Thursday September 10, 2020 in the Chapel of Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 11th at The Jacksonville National Cemetery (lane 2).

I had the pleasure of meeting Gail when our church started having our services at Parkwood. I started doing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes with Gail and several other ladies. She was one of the sweetest most blessed people I’ve ever met. We will miss that wonderful smile. Asking God to ease the grief I know her family and friends are feeling. We will all be together again one day!

Gail was truly an inspiration to so many of us. She worked so hard at our church and always with such joy and energy. She was such a dear, dear lady and someone I hope I live long enough to be like - Gail showed the love of Jesus every day of her life. Love you Gail, and will really miss you. To her family, I am so sorry for your loss.

Gail was the first person to walk over and introduce herself to us over 19 years ago when we first moved into the neighborhood. We thought to ourselves, wow what a warm, sweet and kind person she is.

We had no idea just what kind of positive influence she would have on our lives for the next 19 years. I mean everything that comprises her being is all positive, unlimited compassion, caring, giving, no negativity just doing everything humanly possible for others in need. Gail’s charming personality made her the magnet for all of the neighborhood folks as she had the effect of attracting everyone who came by. They had to stop by and say hello and get the latest news.

God truly created a special person years ago when he blessed her parents with this wonderful baby girl that grew up to honorably represent her family and faithfully serve God in an immense way.

Miss Gail, you’re one of a kind and we can’t ever recall where we’ve met such a sweet, kind, giving, caring and generous person like you. You’re always thinking about others, always planning ahead on how you could make an impact in their life because you’re filled with Jesus’ love, kindness and understanding.
Years ago an evangelist wrote the following verse in my Bible at a church that I was attending. I’ve come to realize the special meaning in this verse and it now makes total sense to me now – Romans 8:28.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who ARE THE CALLED... according to His purpose, not ours...

To the family, may God provide to all of you, the understanding, guidance and comfort during this difficult time in your life.

Miss Gail, you will be greatly missed on this earth and we know God has a plan for all of us and that you have been chosen at this point in time.

WE LOVE YOU!!

Such a sweet and special lady. I’ve been blessed to have my path cross with hers. I’ll see you again in Heaven someday. Praying for the family.
