George B. Stallings

1918 - 2018

George B. Stallings, Jr., born May 12, 1918 in Jacksonville, Florida went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2018. George passed away surrounded by his loving family whom he cherished and adored. George lived a long and prosperous life over his 100 years on God's earth.
Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of Carolyn Dohme Stallings and George B. Stallings, Senior. As a young man, he attended the second admitting class at the Bolles School, graduating in 1937. He attended the University of Virginia before volunteering in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He obtained rank of Captain while flying and serving as a flight instructor in the operation of the B-24 Liberator. After the war, he met and married the late Marguerite Hamilton in 1947. Marguerite was a war widow whose infant daughter was raised by George and Marguerite. As newlyweds, George attended the University of Florida Law School graduating with his law degree in 1949.
George opened his law firm in Jacksonville, Florida in 1950 and practiced law over the next 40 years. George was elected to the Florida State House of Representatives in 1958. He was reelected 4 times, serving until he retired from politics in 1968. He was appointed to the first Constitutional Revision Commission and to the Local Government Study Commission. He served as a lobbyist for the Florida Retail Federation throughout much of his later years.
George is survived by his current wife, Martha Ullman Stallings and three daughters, Ann (Larry) Smith, Margo (Jack) Fraliegh and Deborah (Mike) Crumpler. Martha Stallings has 3 children, James (Lisa) Taylor, Susie (Bryan) Woods and Leslie (Zan) Taylor.
George was laid to rest at Oaklawn Cemetery with Military Honors. He was a Christian man, who loved life, family and friends.
