Jack Price Obituary

PRICE Jack Price, 87, born on March 16, 1928 in Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Miriam Finegold-Price, children Ned (Sue), Susan, and Michael, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, brother Sam (Faye), and sisters Florence Schemer (Jerry) and Eunice Zisser (Barry). Through marriage to Miriam, Jack gained loving stepchildren, Robert Finegold and Sandy Weisstein (Steven), 2 grandchildren and another great-grandchild. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy, and parents Isser and Rae Price. Jack graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, then the University of Florida in building construction. While in college at UF, Jack was an active member of Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity. Jack served in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on his 20th birthday on March 16, 1948, and received the World War II Victory Medal. Jack married Judith (Lippman) Price in 1950, and they were married 50 years until her death in 2000. Jack found great luck when he married his current wife, Miriam, on July 5, 2009. Jack and Miriam enjoyed each other and their families for 6 years. Miriam's career as a family practice physician and her nurturing love for Jack gained him extra years of family and life's pleasures. Jack was inducted into the Masonic Lodge, John H. Pratt Lodge No. 261 in 1954. Jack had a stellar career in construction and real estate development, from homes to commercial properties. Jack was an active member of the Board of Trustees of River Garden Hebrew Home for the Aged, where he was a former President. Jack also was an active member of the Board for The Coves independent living on the River Garden campus. Jack also was a former President of Jewish Family and Community Services. The theme of Jack's life was to improve the life of others, whether they be his family, the elderly and disadvantaged, and to perpetuate the teachings and history of the Jewish people through example and education. Jack, together with his brother Sam, took great pride in their contribution to the establishment of the Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica at the University of Florida. Jack and his family would be honored by contributions in Jack's memory to River Garden Senior Services (http://www.rivergarden.org/donate/), Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica at the University of Florida (http://cms.uflib.ufl.edu/Judaica/giving.aspx), Jacksonville Jewish Center (https://jjcjax.org/giving), or Jewish Family and Community Services (https://jfcsjax.org/how-to-help/). Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, January 7, 2016 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery - Gate 5 in the Beth Shalom section. My Uncle Jack. I met him first in 1965 when I came down to Florida from Kansas City for Ned's Bar Mitzvah. I immediately fell in love with Uncle Jack, Aunt Judy (my father's sister) Ned, Susan, Michael and the rest
of the family that I met for the first time: Aunt Florence Evans, Roy, Ilene, Sam Price, Barry and Eunice Zisser and many more. I didn't want to leave. Fortunately I have been able to get to know them all a little better, and I am glad I did. My Uncle Jack was the patriarch of a very tight knit family. I loved him for that, the talks we had, his advice and friendship. You couldn't help but fall in love with this man. I will miss him. I only hope that I can be successful as being a "mensch" as he was.

I met Jack in Germany when he went with his daughter Susan for a major spinal procedure she was having there. My wife and I hit it off with their family and we could tell what a kind and giving person he was. I am very sorry for the family's loss of such a wonderful man, who gave so much to his family and the world he lived in. Terry & Elizabeth Newton; Harbor Springs, Michigan

I only met Jack twice, his daughter was my next door neighbor in Charlotte. He was a charmer even then. What a wonderful life he lived. Susan my heart goes out to you and you brothers. I know the loss of your father will leave a big hole in your heart, but having been there, it does close little by little over the years. He will always be in your heart and I know you are so proud of all the accomplishments he made in his short life. We all hope our parents will love forever, but sadly, only in our hearts. Judd and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Peace! Fran and Judd Knox (Naples, FL)

It takes only a short time to know, admire and love Jack Price and his devoted wife Miriam. We count ourselves fortunate, indeed, for our opportunity, albeit brief, to establish a friendship with this giving couple. Our hearts go out to the entire family for the great loss each member has suffered by Jack's death.
