James Mitchell Obituary

MITCHELL Funeral services for Mr. James Willie Mitchell will be held Saturday, July 8, 2006, at 11:00 A.M., in the First Timothy Baptist Church, with Reverend Frederick D. Newbill, officiating. Mr. James Willie Mitchell, 71, departed this life on Saturday July 1, 2006. Mr. Mitchell was born November 24, 1934, in Twin City, Georgia, the son of the late Mary Lamar Mitchell (Hannah) and James A. Mitchell. He was educated in the public school system in Twin City. He later moved to Newark, New Jersey and went to work for Clark Equipment. Soon after moving to New Jersey, he met and married the late Marsha Ann Bowers and that union produced three children. Later, he met and married the late Naomi Louise Gill, a widower with six children. In late 1976, he and his family were transferred to Jacksonville, Florida, with his new company, Sea Land. James worked at Sea Land until his retirement in 1994. James spent his life doing what he loved to do which was spending time with family, friends and traveling. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he reached the level of Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret, 32nd Degree. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Akbar K. Mitchell; two stepdaughters, Veronica Lee and Giles Lee Smith; two sisters, Beverly Johnson and Shirley Mitchell Cargile. James leaves to cherish his memory: five children, Deborah Williams (Benny), Donna Mitchell-Freeman (Randy), Saroya Mitchell Brown (Howard), Jamille Mitchell (Kia), and Olliesha J. Lee; six grandchildren, Bayyinah Brown, Devonte Banks, Jamille Mitchell Jr., Christopher Brown, Monqui'e Mitchell, and Kesara Mitchell; four stepchildren, Herman Lee (Ruby), Hampton Lee, Corliss Lee, and Janet Lee; five brothers, Ivy Johnson (Mary), Billy Johnson (Anna), James A. Mitchell (Brenda), Phillip Johnson (Mary Ann) and Donald Johnson (Sarah); one sister, Jeanette Johnson; seven step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly. Visitation will be at the mortuary from 5 until 8 P.M., Friday. The cortege will assemble at 10:00 A.M., at 11448 Quailhollow Drive on Saturday. Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
