James Tuten Obituary
Funeral services for James Francis Tuten, 89, will be held at 11:00a.m. Thursday, July 15,2021 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4747 Main Street, with Rev. Steve Leggett officiating. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Tuten retired as District Chief, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department after 36 years of service. Born March 12,1932 in Jacksonville, Florida to Hilda Hampie and James Frank Tuten, Chief Tuten died Thursday, July 8,2021 at his home in Jacksonville. He served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War; was a member of Deermeadows Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class; the Hoi Poloi Golf Club; and the Jacksonville Retired Fire Fighters Association. He was predeceased by his wife, Ella Ruth Blackwell Tuten. Survivors include his son, Frank David Tuten, retired Captain JFRD of Fernandina Beach, FL; two daughters, Nancy Lee Tuten Tillman of Jacksonville Beach and Jane Marie Tuten of St. Augustine, FL; two step-daughters, Rebecca Roberts of Punta Gorda, FL and Suzanne Roberts of Port Charlotte, FL; and three granddaughters, Elisabeth Keasler, Lauren Lee Tillman and Brooke Nicole Tillman; and Jo Lee Frey, a life long friend, former spouse and mother of Frank, Nancy and Jane. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Jacksonville Retired Fire Fighters Association. We have lost a good Man !!! Chief Tuten was a good friend , good officer , and Great Firefighter. I had the honor of working at # 4 with him several years , when he was a Captain ,different shift . He was dealt some challenges that he made positives out of , I and others learned a lot from his quite , deliberate , all business approach .
