Jim was the kind of guy who made an impression on others. I remember him from my first years in Jacksonville (the early 80's) and a lot of the Utech family who were involved with painting a lot of townhomes for us...and my own home. The whole family could be counted on to be professional and good at their work. And good company, too! My sympathies are with the family. Mary Louise Dungey

I was on the Andy the same time as Jim. Didn't get to know him well, but the times we made contact he impressed me a being a real down to earth person, and seemed to guinely like his shipmates. Best wishes to his family.

I only knew Jim for the 18 months I was on the "Andy" but I never forgot him during my 29 years in the CG. He was always a "Chief" and a shipmate but never a tyrant.

My he have blue skies, fair winds, and a following sea whereever he goes. He will be missed.

Jim and I served on the Cutters Chatauqua, Androscoggin and the Coast Guard Recruiting Station in Jacksonville for a total of eight years serving togather. In later years, I stopped to see him when in Jacksonville. We had some good times over the years and as we began to become computer experts extended our vast knowledge to others (ha). His nick mame was Bear which I'm not sure who gave it to him or if he gave it to himself.I wish only the best to his wife Gerri and his children. He will be missed by many. As he sets off on his final trip across the bar, may the good Lord grant him fair winds and following seas.
