Kimberly Pommer Obituary

Pommer
Kimberly Faith Smoak Pommer, 55, passed away at 12:15 pm at Community Hospice on January 6th surrounded by friends, family and lots of love. Kim was born here in Jacksonville on July 25, 1965, to Linda Waarum and Jim Smoak. Kim was a trailblazer here in Jacksonville. She attended Morningstar School and continued on to Alden Road Exceptional Center, working in the Culinary Arts Program then after graduating, went on to work in the community full time for several supportive organizations being Quincys, Hardees, Pizza Hut, Steinmart (10 years), and Lubi's. Kim lived with her family until she was 22 and then moved to an apartment with her husband, Kenny Pommer, and they were married for 20 years until she was diagnosed with Dementia. Kim collected a roomful of gold medals and at the age of 22, she was chosen to go to the National Special Olympics to compete in gymnastics and then went on to join the Duval County Special Olympics and won so many gold and silver medals in swimming, bowling, and surfing that we ran out of room for all of them. She continued with Special Olympics for 32 years until her Dementia forced her to stop. She built friendships that will last forever. Kim touched so many lives and helped pave the road for persons with disabilities to live a wonderful, fulfilling life void of restrictions and handicaps.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Pommer, her Mother, Linda Waarum and spouse, Yogi Waarum, her Father James Marvin Smoak, Jr., and spouse Linda Smoak, her sister, Tammy Smoak Horn, her brother, Buck Smoak and spouse Whitney Smoak, her sister, Kathleen Smoak Land and others of her large loving family including many friends with the First Coast Dolphins.
A memorial service to celebrate Kim's life will be announced in the near future.

So sorry, Linda. Just recently heard of the loss of your sweet multi-talented daughter. She had a loving, active and service to community life. Which I know gives you pride. It all began with you, a mother's love.
