Klaus Lassig Obituary

1937 ~ 2014
Bountiful, UT -Our loving husband, father, brother and buppi (grandpa), peacefully returned home to our Heavenly Father on October 20, 2014.
Born in Schoenborn-Dreiwerden Saxony, Germany to Otto and Johanna Lassig, Klaus was the middle of three children. He was baptized at age eight in the Chopau River. He was the pioneer of his family escaping communist East Germany in 1955 searching for the American dream! After he arrived in America, not knowing any English, he worked for Evans Supply faithfully for 24 years. In 1964 he married his sweetheart Arlene M. Wilkins. Still searching for the American dream he started his own business in 1982. Lassco Sound & Systems was revolutionary in systems integration. Anyone that knew him knew he was a devoted, hard worker! He was an amazing father, involved in outdoor activities with his four children. He was always friendly and outgoing! He was funny and had a quick, yet often inappropriate sense of humor... Klaus was a true patriot and was grateful to be an American Citizen.
His life was full of adventure and was fortunate to have traveled the world. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite callings in the church were teaching the teenagers and being a home teacher. He and Arlene served as missionaries at the Centerville Dry Pack Cannery. He was a very generous and charitable man giving of his time, talents and resources. We loved him in many ways and will continue to be inspired by him.
Survived by his wife, Arlene, daughters Melanie Cuthbert (Steven), Jenae Bethers (Mark); sons David Lassig (Marci), Christopher Lassig (Michelle); 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother Reiner Lassig (Janice) and sister Annemarie Ferrari; Preceded in death by his father Otto O. Laessig and mother Johanna Kappel.
Funeral Services will be held at 10am, Monday October 27, 2014 at the Bountiful, UT North Canyon Stake Center, 965 East Oakwood Drive. Friends and family may visit Sunday, between 6-8pm, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, or Monday, 9-9:45am at the church. Interment will follow funeral services Monday at the Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road West Jordan, UT.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that you consider a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Institute or charity of your choice.

Dear Arlene, Melanie, Jenae, David, Chris and family. We just read about Klaus's passing in the Deseret News and wanted to send our love and sympathy. It has been years ago since we all lived in the Monument Park 10th Ward as neighbors and friends. We loved Klaus's hard work ethic and playful humor. The obituary notice was a wonderful tribute to him and his family. The picture is as we remember him, only a bit older. Sorry we are not able to attend the funeral but our thoughts and prayers will be with all of you. Love, the Russ and Linda Fotheringham Family (Marci, Rob, Rusty, Chad, Kyle and Megan) Cedar Hills, Utah

The Evans family sends their love. Klaus was like a member of our family in may ways for so many years.
It is with fondness that I recall, as a young man, traveling all over and working with Klaus installing sound systems. He was a great example, mentor, and friend to me.

My condolences: I worked for an engineering firm in Utah for years and we used Klaus for his knowledge, expertise and the equipment he represented. Personally I really liked talking to him and listening to his stories. I travelled to Germany many times to Ski and visit friends. And was there when the wall came down. I enjoyed sharing those stories with him. I recognized his picture in the paper immediately. Brought back many great memories. I am sorry for your loss but he was really cool and made many friends and gained their respect…

Dear Arlene and family,
We are saddened to hear of Klaus passing. We knew he was not well when we left on our mission and we prayed for him daily here in England. We will miss his bright smile and cheerful greeting. My most vivid memory of Klaus was his roof re-shingle project. I thought he would become dizzy and fall from the heights. Jeff and I pray that the comforter will be with you in the coming days and you will feel a sense of peace.
Love, Jeff and Rosanne Shaw (England Manchester Mission)
