Fred was a great friend to me for the past 28 years in Atlanta. He was always there for me if I needed anything and I always tried to return the favor. I will greatly miss such a good friend and person.
We always considered Fred to be one of the family and our events will never be the same without him. I know that others who knew Fred, will also miss him. It was good to see all the people at the funeral and to know they also thought of Fred the same way I did. As a great friend and a helpful person.
I will miss Fred and always carry his memory with me. Goodbye Fred.

Lewie and Mozelle, Donna,Mike,Darlene and Steve,
We are so sorry for your loss with the passing of Fred. Having graduated with him, I was so glad to get to see him for a few minutes at the Christmas Eve service at church. Thought it would be a "first time" not an only, but God knows best. Our prayers are with your family in these days that lie ahead. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you. So glad to be part of your church family now. The service was so touching. It was very obvious that Fred was well loved by many. Especially his family. He was lucky to have all of you.

Fred was a true gentleman and stoic spirit with whom I was honored to be a friend. We first met at Fletcher High School sometime in 1971 or '72, but became much better friends after graduation and as the years passed. He was never one to complain and always seemed to make the best of every situation. He always had a dry joke or humorous comment ready for any situation.
Over the years Fred made every effort to drop by while in Jacksonville to vist with me, Kathy, and our two sons Bryan and Bobby. I laugh recalling when he dropped by one evening during Christmas season to be greeted by my then 3 year old son Bryan who was wearing Seminole pajamas. After questioning with a laugh what I was trying to raise my son to be (I'm being charitable and politically correct here), he showed up the next night with a gift for Bryan, namely Gator pajamas! Well Bryan was still a Seminole fan, but he wore those Gator pajamas out anyway. He had to. They were from Uncle Fred!
Fred was always a part of our family whenever around. We had no way of knowing it during high school, but Fred, my brother Eric, Rick Rentsch, Rusty Wilder, Gary Pedroni and Keith Shriver all stayed in touch and maintained life long friendships after high school and college. We have long missed Rick and Fred's passing now will leave another hole, but with it fond and lasting memories.
The relationships we forge with family and friends are what is truly important in life and Fred will always be a rich part of so many of our lives. He too was rich with those many relationships. We miss you Fred. God bless you and carry on with God's eternal peace until we meet again.

Fred was a dear friend for many years and a regular guest at our annual July 4th parties in Alpharetta, GA. He shared a dry sense of humor and cutting wit that entertained many. He delighted my wife and his friend Pamela Lockwood Regan with drawn out tall tales of fantasy and "manly" adventures that he wove so well. Fred did not drink, but that did not keep him from having a good time. He would often arrive at events wearing a casual but tasteful hat of some kind. His favorite quote was "He who conquers others is strong; he who conquers himself is mighty." --Lao Tzu. Fred was every bit of this. He conquered a weight problem from his youth and battled gallantly against the cancer that eventually took him. He was very stoic whenever we discussed it. On a long ride from Jacksonville to Atlanta last year he confided to me that he had enjoyed his life, had few regrets and was ready for whatever awaited him. What regrets he had, he learned from. We knew that Fred had an uphill battle but we did not expect to have to say goodbye so soon. Every conversation seemed far from the last. God bless and keep you Fred. Thank you for being yourself and for being a friend.

Although I haven't spoken with Fred in many years, I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a sweet, funny man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
