Lillian Stringfield Obituary

STRINGFIELD
Lillian Sharp Stringfield, 91 years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday October 11th, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday October 18, 2018 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. The family will receive friends for visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service hour. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Born May 11, 1927 in Jacksonville, Florida. The eldest of three, to Lemuel and Reba Sharp. She grew up in Brentwood and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1945. Lillian has two brothers, Lemuel Sharp Jr and Lewis Tommy Sharp, whom she loved very much.
In 1946, Lillian married Carl E Stringfield. They were married 54 years until his passing in 2000. Together, they had three children, Gene Stringfield of Jacksonville, FL, Joan Farrell-Hall (Ron) of Ponte Vedra, FL, and Julie Schnieder (Marc) of Macomb, Michigan.
Lillian was referred to as Momma Lil by her nine grandchildren. Her grandchildren included - Gene's daughter, Charity, and four great grandchildren of Ohio. Julie's children, Richie (Kristie), Vyvyen, and Corey of Michigan. Joan's children, Gabrielle, Jimmy (Lynsi), Susan, Katharine, and Michael (Karina) of Florida. Momma Lil shared a very special bond with her great grandchildren – Micayla and Savannah – they made each other laugh all the time. Momma Lil was also looking forward meeting her newest great grandchildren, Vivian and Calvin – who were born days prior to Momma Lil's passing.
Lillian worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company for 40 years - retiring early to help care for her sweet mother. She was a lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church. She loved her Sunday School friends. Lillian wrote poetry, loved her detective shows, loved to swim, tap dance, and played the accordion and piano. Momma Lil had the most beautiful smile - always so sweet and loving to everyone she met. She was so funny and had a great sense of humor. We often called her "Silly Lilly". Lillian was preceded in death by her wonderful parents (Lemuel and Reba Sharp), her husband (Carl), her son (Gene), her son-in-law (James), and her longtime best friend (Margie Summers) – who she called her "Nutty Buddy".
We would like to take this time to thank Hospice for taking such good care of our wonderful Momma Lil during her final days. She lived a long, beautiful life and thanked God everyday for her family, friends, and many blessings.
As hard as it is to accept her passing, we know that Lillian is looking over all of us today. She is gracing us with her beautiful smile right now. She is overjoyed to see her family and friends join together to celebrate her life, love and laughter. We will all miss her dearly. Amen.

I was the flower girl in Carl and Lillian's wedding. Our family lived in Jacksonville at the time and we all attended Brentwood Baptist Church. I have many memories of going to the Sharp home and enjoying Mrs. Sharp's wonderful meals and a special treat of going there after church on Sunday nights and having doughnuts. They were special people. Carl and Lillian showered me with attention and I loved them dearly. They form many of my memories from being a little girl. We stayed in touch and I spent one summer with them babysitting Joanie and Gene while Lillian got a few weeks work in at Southern Bell. They were so supportive and always showed me love. I was saddened to see the obituary as I was looking up Lillian to make sure I had the right address for a Christmas card as I knew she had moved. God bless Carl and Lillian as they are together again. God bless all who knew and loved them,

I was the flower girl in Carl and Lillian's wedding. As a little girl, I loved the both of them dearly and they showered me with attention and love. I was looking up the address for Christmas cards when I came upon the obituary and it brings tears to my eyes. My favorite memories as a child was being around the two of them. They were an encouragement to me as I grew up. They, Lillian and Carl, were absolutely wonderful people. God rest their souls as they are together again and I know they are blissfully happy in heaven.

Very sorry to hear of Lillian's passing in today's obituaries. Doesn't surprise me in the least that Lillian lived to be 91 years old...good for her! Lillian and I worked together at Southern Bell from 1974 to 1978 in the San Marco office at 1562 Atlantic Blvd. She was a joy to work with and a very Classy Lady. Condolences to her family, and congrats to Lillian for a living a long and successful life!
