Mrs. Houghton has been in my life as long as I can remember. I will always feel very blessed for knowing this strong, wonderful woman. She was my second mother, and she gave me one of the greatest gifts of my lifetime…the friendship of her daughter, Susan. Her sons Frank, Wayne, and Louie are like brothers to me. We all “got our start” on Royal Avenue…a place where bonds were created that will always exist. Our parents were young couples, raising their children in a neighborhood of safety, love, and security…a place where permanent memories and everlasting friendships were made. The children in the Houghton and Cochrane families grew into adulthood, always knowing that there was a light on in the window in both households for anyone who needed to come home. It is comforting to know that Lois, Frank, and Susan Houghton and Jim and Nancy Cochrane are reunited in a heavenly kingdom, and, I am certain that a light shines brightly in a window there as well, to guide us all home one day.

Lois was an icon at Edgewood Christian Church. She was a wonderful teacher and had the courage to take on pre-schoolers, as well as, octogenarians. She was also a terrific bookkeeper. I took over the treasurer's job a couple of years ago and her diligence and attention to detail made it so much easier. I suspect she'll have the celestial ledger in good order before too long. She will be greatly missed at her church!

The members of the Florida's First Coast Waves Unit #38 send their deepest sympathy at your loss. We were glad to have known Lois as a member of our unit for many years. She will be missed. She was a very active person in her lifetime and was proud to be a WAVE who serverd her country proudly in WWII. As president of the Unit, I want to salute her memory and will remember her unselfish service to her country. Prayers go with you at this sad time.
