Margaret Browning Obituary

BROWNING Margaret Browning, following an extended illness, passed away February 7, 2016 in Athens, Georgia just a few months shy of her 100th birthday. Born on April 25, 1916 in Spokane, Washington, her parents, Alexandra Sandra and Erik Lundin, were from Sweden. Margaret attended Washington State University where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. After working a short time in Spokane, Margaret moved to San Francisco just before WWII and worked in the business department of a car dealership. In San Francisco she met her future husband, Dr. John Rogers Browning, at a USO dance in 1945 and after a brief courtship was married that same year and moved to Jacksonville, Florida where Dr. Browning set up his medical practice. Margaret was the office manager of her husband's urological practice until her retirement. While living in Jacksonville, Margaret and Dr. Browning enjoyed the north Georgia mountains and spent many Summer and Fall months in Blairsville, GA. She was an active member of the South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, the Jacksonville Women's Garden Club and was Secretary of the Duval County Women's Medical Auxiliary for many years. Margaret was also an avid bridge player. After 62 years in Jacksonville, Margaret moved to Arbor Terrace in Athens in 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Rogers Browning, her parents, her brother, Arthur Lundin and her nephew, John Lundin. She is survived by her children, daughter Sandra and husband Bob Boyd, Athens, GA, daughter Barbara Browning, Dunwoody, GA, son John and wife Fran Browning, Blairsville, GA and her grandchildren, Molly Browning and Kathryn Browning, Raleigh, NC and Stephanie and her husband Benjamin Albritton, Hickory, NC and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Arbor Terrace of Athens for the care and assistance given to Margaret since 2007 and the recent care provided by Care to Continue and Gentevia Hospice. A graveside service will be held at the Oaklawn Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL at 10 am on Saturday, February 13, 2016. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Georgia Chapter Alzheimer's and Dementia Foundation Inc. www.alz.org/georgia, the Wounded Warrior Project - www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate or the USO - www.uso.org/donate Funeral arrangements are under the direction of George H. Dear Barbara and family,
I am so sorry to hear of your dear Mom's passing and send my deepest condolences. Although I did not meet her, she passed some very caring and compassionate qualities on to her daughter Barbara, my friend. May God uplift you and comfort you with His amazing grace.

To the Margaret Browning Family: Our Mother (Luree Thomas)occupied the room to the right of "Miss Margaret's" for over 3 years, before moving to the Memory Care area downstairs at Arbor Terrace in June of 2014. She passed away on Dec. 31, 2014. I shared many meals with Mother and Miss Margaret as they sat at the same table for meals. She was such a sweet person, always nicely dressed, and most often with her beautiful smile lighting up the room!! I enjoyed our conversations, sharing events in our lives, our likes and dislikes, and occasionally me making both she and Mother laugh aloud with a joke or funny story. She never mentioned their time in Blairsville, GA but, ironically I have a second home in nearby Hiawassee!. Her life as presented in her obituary speaks highly of a woman of character and caring. I know that her passing leaves a void in your lives. May our awesome loving and healing God be with each of you and see you through your sadness.
