Maria Caserta Obituary

CASERTA Mrs. Maria I. Caserta, age 91, of Fernandina Beach, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2009, at Baptist Medical Center - Jacksonville. Born in Ana Capri, Italy, Mrs. Caserta was one of twelve children born to Udricco and Caterina Massimo Ferraro. She met her future husband, a young Army Air Corp solider, Bartholomew Caserta while he was stationed in Naples and on leave in Ana Capri. In 1947, she came to the United States, married Mr. Caserta and moved to his home town of Piqua, Ohio. Mrs. Caserta had worked at Semicon Inc. in Burlington, Mass. for a number of years before retiring at the age of 62. In 1987, they moved from Woburn, Mass. to Fernandina Beach to enjoy retirement. Mrs. Caserta was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Fernandina Shores Quilting and Sewing Club. She loved cooking, fishing on the beach, collecting shoreline treasures, spoiling her grandchildren, cheering on the fighting Irish of Notre Dame and bicycling the island. Mrs. Caserta is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Bert Caserta and a son Ron Caserta. She leaves behind, a daughter, Maryann Pihlblad (Jim), Fernandina Beach, four sons, John Caserta (Lilia), Big Rapids, MI, Jim Caserta (Mary), Fernandina Beach, FL, Ed Caserta (Susan), Billerica, MA, Chris Caserta (Sharon), Yulee, FL, eight grandchildren, John Michael Caserta, Isabella Jane Caserta, Stephanie Karen Caserta, Dustin Ryan Caserta, Leah Renee Casto, Justin Lee Caserta, Melissa Italia Caserta, J. B. Caserta, five great grandchildren, Nicholas James Caserta, Imani Maria Caserta, Kyle Edward Hayes, Kaleigh Marie Caserta, John Patrick Caserta and numerous nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday from St. Michael Catholic Church with Reverend Brian Eburn, officiating. Mrs. Caserta will be laid to rest beside her husband in Bosque Bello Cemetery. Guests and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
