Phaedra Moore-Hixenbaugh Obituary

MOORE-HIXENBAUGH Phaedra thanked God for the love and happiness she had in her life. Her husband, Dan Hixenbaugh and his incredibly wonderful family, her late husband, Philip Moore and his daughter, Jourdan Houston, who was a real and caring daughter to her, and her niece, another real daughter, Stephanie Ugalde, all made this love and happiness possible. She was truly blessed in her last days to have Dan Hixenbaughs love and support. She was educated at Dana Hall in Wellesley, schools of photography and drama in New York CIty, sculpture at Guadalajara University in Mexico and liberal arts at the University of Athens in Greece. She was multi-lingual, fluent in Greek, Spanish and French. This gave her the ability to have her own Greek-American weekly radio hour in Miami and her first job with Pan American Airways where she was one of three original Personal Service Staff people in the industry. She was later recruited by Colonial Airlines (which later merged with Eastern) to be special assistant to the president. She later worked for the Miami Herald and became the first woman press photographer in the South, and later the first accredited feature photographer for the Stars and Stripes and the Overseas Weekly in Germany. Later, she formed a public relations firm, which included clients such as Flagship Banks in Miami, Gaines Pet Foods and First Research Company. At First Research, she produced the company newsletter, “ Briefs”, and planned national seminars for the company in New York and Miami. She designed the much discussed outside wall mural for the First Research Building. After moving to Jacksonville, she was on the board of the Lodge, the Fine Arts and Library of Jacksonville University, the Cultural Center and the Ponte Vedra Womens Club. She was the founder and president of Ladies Links (nine hole golfers) at the Ponte Vedra Club and the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club. She was a past president of the Ponte Vedra Womens Tennis Association. Please no flowers. If you like, give an unexpected gift to someone. Phaedra is interred at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery.
