Philip Copans Obituary

COPANS Philip Copans, 97, of Jacksonville, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008. He was born November 14, 1910 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Upon his retirement, he moved to Jacksonville in 1983. Mr. Copans was an active member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center for many years. He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Pollie Copans as well as multiple nieces and nephews in places ranging from Nashville, TN, Miami and Boca Raton, FL, Houston, TX, San Diego, CA, Norfolk, VA, Toronto, Canada, and Johannesburg, South Africa. Additionally he will be dearly missed by Dr. Ray and Kim Silbar and their sons Eliot and Aaron with whom Philip and Pollie have spent the last 20 years. Philip was loved by all who knew him throughout his life, most recently the congregants at the Jacksonville Jewish Center and the residents of Mount Carmel where he was crowned King with his Queen Pollie. Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, March 24, 2008 at New Center Cemetery (43rd & Liberty). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Copans' name may be made to Jewish Family and Community Services. Arrangements are by Hardage- Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue.
