Russell Privette Obituary

PRIVETTE Russell Marcellus Privette, 92, passed away quietly early Sunday morning, January 7, 2007. He is remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and caring friend to all who knew him. Russell was born on April 4, 1914 in Black Creek, NC, the son of the late David Marcellus Privette and Blanche Ricks. He survived his seven brothers and sister. Russell was a dedicated provider. He began his life's work with the Seaboard Airline Railroad in 1941 and worked in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. He and his wife established a home in Jacksonville 40 years ago. He retired from the Communications and Signal Department of the Seaboard Coastline Railroad (now CSX) in 1980. He enjoyed spending time with his family and the many friends he made during his time with the railroad. Russell was a tinkerer, making repairs for family, friends and neighbors. He shared this hobby with his children and grandchildren. He faithfully attended his grandchildren's church, school and sports activities. He was a Christian with a servant's heart. Through the years Russell willingly helped to meet the needs of his church as he was able. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church. Russell is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mabel McManus Privette, and children, Jerry Privette (Ruth) and Ann Dunn (Bruce). He was "Poppie" to his four grandchildren: David Privette, Carrie Privette Clark, Luther Dunn and Clint Dunn, and two great-grandchildren: Isaiah and Olivia Dunn. The family will receive friends at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Wednesday, January 10th, at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local chapter of the American Red Cross. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com

We are sending our love and prayers to you and the family. We are sorry to hear about Uncle Russell's passing. We know he lived a good and full life filled with friends and family. May the memories of so many years together be a comfort to you in the days to come. I will always be grateful for you opening your hearts and home to me when I was young, single, and trying to get a start in Richmond. God bless you, the children and grandchildren as you honor and remember this good man.
