Ruth Annette Albritton Holmes Simmons

SIMMONS Mrs. Ruth Annette Albritton Holmes Simmons was born to the late Frank Albritton and Annie Powell on March 11, 1919 in Quincy, Florida. She was educated in the Gasden County School System. She was united in marriage to Theodore Holmes who preceded her in death leaving three sons. She later married James H. Simmons who preceded her in death, leaving one daughter, Linda S. Clayton and one stepson, James H. Simmons, Jr. who have both preceded her in death. She was the owner and operator of Delux Dry Cleaners. Later in life she spent forty years as a cook and creative chef. She was a member and officer of the Optimist Social Savings Club. Ms. Ruth, as she was affectionately known, was an active member of Macedonia A.M.E. Church until her death. Her devoted membership spans many years. On January 12, 2002, God called his faithful servant home. To cherish her memory she leaves: a loving and devoted sister, Frankie J. Christopher, Coupaige, New York; 3 sons, William O. Holmes (Altamease), Lawrence A. Holmes (Constance) of Fernandina Beach, Theodore Holmes (Darlene), Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; 1 son-in-law, James S. Clayton; grandchildren Carl Frison, Felecia H. Way, Denetra and Theodore Albertie, Michelle R. Hairston, Lawrence A. Holmes, Jr., Kerstin N. and Kevin S. Clayton, Theodore and Kyle Holmes and Rev. James H. SImmons, III; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Quality Health of Fernandina Beach. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday , Jan. 19, 2002 at 1PM at Macedonia A.M.E. Church with Bishop Richard A. Hilderbrand officiating. Friends may view remains Today from 5PM to 8PM in the Mary L. Breaker Memorial Chapel of Huff & Battise Funeral Home and in the church on Saturday from 11AM until the hour of service. Interment in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
