I can't remember how many times he quoted Ricardo Montalban (from "The Longest 100 Miles") - "Some things must be endured, if we are ever to be free." So many that 50+ years later, i named my blog after that quote. I've missed Tom for many years. RIP

"A woman walks into a bar with a duck on a leash ..." Tom, I wish I could hear you say that one more time. Your wry wit and humor paralleled mine, which is why we probably became so close. Whenever we spoke or got together, the laughs flowed like a river. He was the best man at my wedding, and even though our careers took us in different directions and cities, we stayed in close contact. My wife, Anita, and I enjoyed seeing Tom and his mother at spring training games, and I liked meeting his Atlanta pals at the games. I'll really miss you, good buddy.

I fondly remember working with Tom at the AJC. On tough nights, he was a rock in the storm. He was funny and kind, and loved the written word. A true newspaperman.
