William Wilson Obituary
Mr. William Ralph "Bill" Wilson, Jr., 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his residence and following a battle with metastatic cancer. Bill was born on March 28, 1939 in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late William Ralph and Ellen Agnes Downey Wilson. He lived in many areas of the country and has resided in Jacksonville, FL for many years. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1956 and retiring in 1978 as a LCDR. Bill earned a Master's Degree at North Carolina State University and received his graduate degree at the Naval Academy Post Graduate School. He taught Computer Sciences at the Naval Academy. He was then a naval flight officer on P-3s with VP-30 stationed at Jax NAS and retired in 1978. After the Navy, Bill was a Systems Analyst and retired as a manager of computer systems with AT&T/BellSouth. In his retirement he enjoyed camping, cars, mountain life, and all forms of technology. Since 1999 he lived in Glendale Springs, North Carolina and he was an active member of Grace Covenant Community Church. Preceded in death by his parents, surviving family include his wife, Jane Vadakin Wilson; 4 children: Robert "Bob" Wilson, Diana (Kirk) Wendland, Kimberly "Kym" Harper and Victoria "Vickie" Wilson and their mother, Katherine Timet Wilson; 6 grandchildren: Kelly Wilson, Shawn Wilson, Morgan Wendland, Tyler Wendland, Kyle Wilson Harper and Kevin Wilson Harper; 1 brother: John Daniel (Shirley) Wilson and 1 brother-in-law: Charles E. "Ned" (Anne) Vadakin.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Rev. Stephen DeSanto and Chaplain Gerald Felder of Heartland Hospice, officiating. Naval Military Honors will be conferred at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Humane Society and Salvation Army.
