MERLE JOHNSTON, SR. Obituary
He was born Apr. 10, 1922, the son of Lewis and Lula (Butler) Johnston.
Mike married Betty E. Colbath on Mar. 28, 1948; she passed away Mar. 23, 2013.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from Consolidated Gas Company. He was a member of the Clymer Baptist Church, took care of the Sabinsville Cemetery for many years and enjoyed gardening. Mike was a farmer, a carpenter and a hard worker, his hands were always busy.
He is survived by his sons, Harold (Jean) Johnston, Gaines; Charles Johnston, Sabinsville; his daughters, Janet (Basil) Tubbs, Ulysses; Peggy (Tom) Bell, Sabinsville; Barbara (Steve) Davis, Sabinsville; his sister, Nora Stafford, Sabinsville; 14 grandchildren and numerous great and great- great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and a son, Merle Johnston, Jr.
Family will receive friends at Kenyon Funeral Home, 222 West Main Street, Westfield on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
Burial will follow with military honors in Sabinsville Cemetery.
