Carl L. Wertman


Carl Llewellyn Wertman, 74, of Germansville, died Sunday in the St. Luke Hospital, Allentown Campus. He was the husband of Mildred A. (Wotring) (Gruber) Wertman. They observed their 26th wedding anniversary last November.

He was also the husband of the late Elsie E. (Muth) Wertman, who died in 1976.

He was an equipment operator for 30 years for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation until retiring in 1991. Prior to that, he was employed by the Caloric Corporation, formerly of Topton, and the former Berks Foundry, Hamburg.

Born in Lynn Township, he was a son of the late Llewellyn G. and Gertrude F. (Hausman) Wertman.

He enjoyed camping and attending Blue Grass Festivals.

The deceased attended several churches in the area and later became a member of the New Life Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Tripoli.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Marlene A. Wertman, and two stepdaughters, Marie M., wife of Mark Gressley, and Karen P., wife of Fred Strohl, all of Germansville; and six grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hunsicker, who died in 2006; two sisters, Perma Williams and Grace Riegel; and a brother Lawrence.
