Dorothy Farrell Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy E. "Dottie" Farrell, 67, of West Sixth Street, Jim Thorpe, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, surrounded by her family. She had fought a 3-1/2-year battle with cancer. She was the widow of John J. "Jack" Farrell, who died June 5, 2001. She owned and operated Farrell Gifts, a flag stand at the Hometown Farmer's Market for over 20 years.Born in East Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Crescentia (Herman) Izzo.
She was a 1963 graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.
Surviving are three daughters, Jacqueline, wife of Brad DeMarco, Karen and Kathy, wife of Nelson Ulshafer II, all of Jim Thorpe; five sisters, Joanne, wife of Francis O'Donnell, Mary Louise, wife of Joseph Lesisko, Margaret, wife of William Diehm, and Kay Henritzy, all of Jim Thorpe, and Arlene Eckhart of Lehighton; a brother Victor, and his wife, Carolyn, of Jim Thorpe; nine grandchildren, Zachary, Jocelyn, Nathan and Kaitlyn DeMarco, Samantha Lyden and Johnathan, Justin, Jason and Jake Ulshafer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ted Eckhart.
Service: Memorial Mass 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 526 North St., Jim Thorpe, with the Rev. James Bechtel officiating. Interment, parish cemetery, Jim Thorpe. Memorial visitation 9-11 a.m. Monday in the church. Contributions in her name may be made to Gynecologic Oncology Specialists, to be used for cancer research, Attn. Dr. Martin Martino, 1240 S. Cedar Crest Blvd., Suite 403, Allentown, Pa. 18103. Arrangements by Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe.
