Edith DeLong Obituary

Mrs. Edith A. DeLong, 94, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mahoning Township. She was the widow of David W. DeLong, who died in 1993.
She worked as a pricing clerk for the former Bright's Department Store, Lehighton, and was the original head cook for the food service department of the Mahoning Elementary School.
Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late William and Katie (Reinhart) Long.
She was a 1933 graduate of Lehighton Area High School.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Mahoning Valley, where she was a member of the choir for over 50 years.
Mrs. DeLong was the elected Republican committeewoman in Mahoning Township for over 20 years. She was also involved with the Carbon County 4-H for many years.
Surviving are a son, Dean D.W., and his wife, Betty, of Greenville, S.C.; a granddaughter-in-law, Deanna DeLong of Kempton; a grandson, Mark DeLong, and his wife, Jessica, Bethlehem; and four great-grandchildren, Colin, Christine, Alex and Addison.
She was also predeceased by a daughter Carolyn K.J.; a grandson, David K. DeLong; six brothers and four sisters.
Service: Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, Mayes-Melber Funeral Home, 200 Franklin St., Weissport, with the Rev. Christopher Deforest officiating. Interment, St. John Cemetery, Mahoning Twp. Call 9-10 a.m. Saturday. Contributions in her name may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 826 Mahoning Drive West, Lehighton, Pa. 18235.

DEAN, Sorry for your loss, she & uncle Dave always treated me & my family, including" POP", with great friendship & caring. I will remember my early years contact with her as well as in later years. Also all the Long Family stories. Sorry I cannot get up to any services due to some health problems.
