Harold Kreger Obituary

Harold L. Kreger
Harold L. Kreger was called home on Jan. 29, 2016. He passed from this world at Pocono Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Palmerton in 1931 to Henry J. and Stella M. (Bollinger) Kreger. Preceding him in death was his loving wife of 62 years, Gloria J. (Beers) Kreger.
Harold grew up on the family farm in Kresgeville, and graduated from Polk High School. He met Gloria when he came calling on her after seeing her for the first time at the West End Fair a week earlier. They married in August, 1952, and together they worked side by side on their family farm as they raised four children: Sherry Watson (Jerry) of Pequea, PA, Tod Kreger (Barbara) of Kunkletown, Ted Kreger (Sherry) of Kresgeville and Ben Kreger of Point Pleasant, N.J.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Holly Lehman (Corey), Amanda Heckman (Nick), Jared, Traci and Adam Kreger, and five great-grandchildren.
Harold worked on the family farm for several years before joining the U.S. Army, where he served stateside and in West Germany. Upon arriving home, he took over as the third generation managing the family farm. He expanded operations to include a 3,000 laying hen/egg production business.
Harold served on the Polk Township Planning Commission for over 25 years. He also was a longtime member of the Grundsow Lodsch Nummer Sexa and served on its 'S Rawd as the Wedder Barichda from 2002-2014, translating the groundhog's weather prediction from Pennsylvania German to English.
His hobbies and interests included hunting, reading, collecting Indian artifacts and fixing and tinkering in his shop.
Harold loved and cherished his family and Gloria. Together, they kept a loving home as they raised their children and encouraged and supported them in their interests, pursuits and vocations. Harold had many lifelong friends and shared many special times with them throughout his life. He thoroughly enjoyed the trips he and Gloria took after their children were grown.
Service: Per Harold's wishes, a private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Rt. 209, Brodheadsville, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, if desired, contributions may be made to a charity, church or organization of the donor's choosing. www.kresgefuneralhome.com.
