John Hettler Obituary

John C. Hettler Jr.

John Charles Hettler Jr., 57, of Long Run Road, Franklin Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, in the St. Luke's Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Melodie (Kleintop) Hettler.

He last worked at U.S. Cold Storage, the Borough of Weissport and the Borough of Lehighton.

Born in Lehighton on Sept. 19, 1966, he was the son of Viola (Hunsicker) Hettler and the late John C. Hettler Sr.

He was a 1985 graduate of Lehighton Area High School.

He was discharged from the U.S. Army, Airborne Division in 1991, and the National Guard in 1996.

John was involved with the Pennsylvania Outdoor Veterans.

He was an avid collector of many items; his favorites were swords, knives and hats. He enjoyed attending the Renaissance Fairs, vendor/craft shows with his wife, and spending time with his family and friends.

John was a member of the Lehighton Pool League and the East Penn Sporting Club.

Surviving in addition to his beloved wife and dogs, Cocoa, Freckles and Bella, and his mother, and her companion, Dennis Getz, are a son, Kevin Smith (Hilary); a daughter, Amanda Hettler; a stepson, Josh Whitaker (Stephanie); a stepdaughter, Amanda Hansen (Nathan); grandchildren, Riley Smith and Elijah and Josiah Hettler; stepgrandchildren, Lilyanna, Aryah and Jeremyah Whitaker and Eric and Ethan Hansen; a brother, Bruce Hettler (Sharon); a sister, Michele Hettler Behler (Lonnie); nieces and nephews, Amber Hettler Tresslar (Justin), Bruce Hettler Jr. (Caitlin), Glenn Hibbler Jr. (Elizabeth) and Thera Hibbler; his mother-in-law, Linda Billig; a brother-in-law, Mitch Kleintop (Linda); and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Service: Celebration of Life service 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, Bowmanstown. Arrangements by Ovsak Funeral Home, Lehighton. Online condolences can be offered at www.ovsakfh.com.
