John D. Stafiniak
John D. Stafiniak, 93, of Blakeslee Boulevard Drive West, Lehighton, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Alice (Bittner) Stafiniak, who passed away on Dec. 27, 2002. They were married for 56 years until her passing. He worked for No. 1 Contracting in Kingston as a carpenter for many years. Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Daniel and Eva (Polansky) Stafiniak. John was a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Coast Artillery being stationed in Fort Eustis, Pacific Ocean Side and also being stationed in Panama for 2½ years. Prior to that, he has served in the Civialian Conservation Corps. in Virginia.
He was a member of St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church in Coaldale and was a member of the Lehighton American Legion Post 314.
John was an avid bowler and enjoyed carpentry work, singing, dancing, playing the harmonica and listening to music.
Surviving are four children, John Stafiniak, and his wife Ellen (Folk) of Lehighton, Michael Stafiniak, and his wife Linda (Milliman), of Orefield, Anna Kemmerer, and her husband LeRoy of Palmerton, and Daniel Stafiniak, and his wife Sherry (Wagner), with whom he resided; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Daniel and Paul; sisters, Mary Federa, Annie Cornett, and Mildred Bittner; a stepbrother, Michael Horoschak.
Service: Funeral service is on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, with the Rev. Ignatius Gauvain officiating. Military interment will follow at St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Summit Hill. Calling hours are on Monday from 10-11 a.m.
