Mrs. Marie E. Meckes


Mrs. Marie E. Meckes, 81, of Smith Road, Jim Thorpe, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. She was the widow of Albert O. Meckes, who died in 1978.

She was a sewing machine operator for Scotty's Fashions, Lehighton, for over 20 years.
Born in Albrightsville, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Alice (Dotter) Eckley.

She was of the Lutheran faith.Surviving are five sons, Albert F., and his wife, Bonita L., and Allen L., both at home, Arthur R., and his wife, Irene M., of Beltzville, and Arlington B., and his wife, Beulah, and Aaron B., and Carole Platt, both of Jim Thorpe; a daughter, Bonita M., wife of Thomas J. Ohl of Jim Thorpe; five sisters, Helen Smale of Kresgeville, Joyce Gaumer of Jim Thorpe, Laverne McDonald of Tamaqua, Gloria Eckley of Weatherly and Norma, wife of Raymond Poltrock of White Haven; two brothers, Samuel and Norman, both of Lehighton; eight grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda S. Meckes Coleman; and two brothers, Elwood and Willard.

Service: Funeral service 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, with the Rev. John P. Hassler officiating. Interment, Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Call 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 1;30-2 p.m. Friday. Contributions in her name may be made to the American Cancer Soc., Memorial Gifts, P.O. Box 897, Hershey, Pa. 17033.
