Robert Popik Obituary

Robert C. "Woody/Wheel/Bobby/Bob" Popik

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert C. Popik, 59, the son of Helen (Kail) and the late Robert D. Popik.

Bobby entered heaven on Dec. 10, 2025, at 11:36 a.m. at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson, MD, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a beloved family member, friend, and a larger-than-life presence in the Baltimore community.

As a professional DJ, Bobby's résumé boasts more than 800 weddings and over 1,000 additional events, as well as 25 years of service with the Baltimore Orioles, 15 years with the Baltimore Ravens, and 14 years with the Navy Midshipmen. Among his many career highlights, one of his proudest achievements was DJing for the more than 200,000 people in attendance at the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl Championship parade in 2013.

While Bobby's unmatched work ethic and encyclopedic knowledge of music set him apart professionally, those who knew him understood that the true differentiator of his success was his sincere and genuine love for people. When you encountered Bobby, he made you feel like you were the best part of his day, greeting everyone with his uplifting personality. Chances are you shared in his booming, contagious laugh and walked away with a memorable story.

A natural congregator of people, Bobby brought joy and positive energy everywhere he went. He consistently put the happiness and well-being of others before his own.

Bobby was an avid Baltimore sports fan, a devoted lover of great music - especially the Smiths/Morrissey and the Beatles, a quasi-food critic, the self-proclaimed "best DJ in the state of Maryland," and the unofficial mayor of Baltimore City.

Above all, Bobby was genuine, loving, and lived his life "my way" as Frank Sinatra would say. His memories, laughter, and legacy of living life to the fullest will be carried on eternally by those who know and love him.

In addition to his mother, Bobby is survived by his sister, Kristen Popik Eldar of Palm Springs, CA, her husband, Edward, and their children, Elizabeth and Elias. He is also survived by his cousins, Randy Kail, Matthew (Kelli) Kail, Dana (Paul) Bender, Benjamin (Kate) Karnish, Michael (Audrey) Karnish and Adam (Brittany) Karnish; as well as his loving uncles, Michael (Clara) Karnish and Casimir (Colleen) Karnish; and his aunt, Lorraine Karnish Taylor.

In addition to his father, Bobby was preceded in death by his grandparents, Amelia Karnish and Albert Popik (his paternal grandparents), as well as his grandparents, Anna and Frank Kail (his maternal grandparents). He also was preceded by his uncle, Frank Kail, and his best friend, Houdini.

Services: Visitation will take place at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7110 Sollers Point Road, on Thursday, Dec. 18, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Casimir's Church in Baltimore, 2800 O'Donnell St., on Friday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. Graveside services will be provided by Parambo Funeral Home of Summit Hill, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at SS.
