Alfred Arrington Obituary

Alfred "Al" Arrington

12/29/1942 - 12/18/2025

Alfred "Al" Arrington, 82, of Rockville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Al will be forever remembered for his warm smile, steadfast character, and enduring love for his family.

Born on December 29, 1942, in Thompson, Ohio, Al was the son of the late Edith Lillian Scott. Growing up in Ohio instilled in him the hard work, humility, and kindness that would define his life. After proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Galveston, Al pursued higher education at the University of Toledo, where he graduated with a major in Comprehensive Speech & Hearing Therapy, and a minor in Business.

For much of his professional life, Al dedicated himself to helping others as a Speech Language Pathologist in Toledo Catholic Schools-a role through which he touched countless lives with patience and compassion. His dedication to service extended beyond his career, as he volunteered for many years at St. Anne's Hospital in Toledo, offering support to patients and their families with his gentle demeanor and reassuring presence.

Al married his high school sweetheart, Shirley, sharing 57 years of love, laughter, and partnership. Together, they raised two children, Lindsay and Corey, and later relocated to Maryland to be closer to family. Al embraced this new chapter wholeheartedly, finding joy in exploring local landmarks, watching Baltimore Ravens and Ohio State football, spending time with his grandsons, Wesley and Austin, and grandpups, Koda and Louie. He found peace in jazz and gospel music-especially the soulful sounds of James Cleveland-and in the quiet moments spent with those he loved most.

Al is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Arrington; daughter, Lindsay Arrington; son, Corey (Farrah) Arrington; and grandsons, Wesley and Austin. His memory will live on through the family, friends, and countless individuals blessed by his kindness and gentle spirit.

Services will be held at Snowden Funeral Home, 246 North Washington Street, Rockville, MD 20850, on Thursday, January 15, 2025. Interment will be at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.

I knew Mr. Arrington during my days at St. Pius X in early 80s-90s, I did have to visit the "speech" van. Mr. Arrington was so kind and a wonderful person. I will forever be grateful for his patience and wanting to see me succeed. Prayers to his family on the loss of a great man.

So sorry for your loss!
My day daughter had him as a teacher at OLPH. He was a very nice man and good at what he did!

I'm so sorry for your loss, and I wrote earlier today, expressing my feelings - in my comments I incorrectly mentioned a Corvette. Please disregard that, but allow me to once again say that all my memories of Al are nothing but positive - a good, caring man.

I worked with Al for several years, and he was always a pleasant person and a really good guy who took his role seriously. (Also remember his Corvette!) With sincere sympathy.

To Mr Arringtons family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I went to him for a couple years during my St. Pius X days (81-90). He was always so nice. I ran into him a few years back before he moved.
Your family had my deepest sympathy. RIH Mr. Arrington
